French students visit Cary, other N.C. sites

Thursday, August 21, 2003 - The Cary News

On July 11, Sister Cities of Cary welcomed 11 French students from Le Touquet, Cary's sister city in France.

The students, ages 14-15, stayed in the homes of area residents for two weeks. During their visit, the students took an English course at Cary Academy. Sister Cities of Cary also coordinated a variety of activities, including: an American-style picnic at Bond Park on July 14 (the French National holiday), a trip to Wrightsville Beach, tours of Cary, Raleigh and the Stevens Nature Center, and, of course, local shopping.

The students also were treated to bowling at Buffaloe Lanes and an afternoon of amusement at FunWerks.

Sister Cities of Cary wishes to thank the following local businesses for their generous support of this year's exchange: Ashworth Drug, Buffaloe Lanes on High House Road, Cary Academy, FunWerks on Tryon Road, Goodberry's on Kildaire Farm Road, Harrison's Grill on Harrison Avenue, Hibernian Restaurant & Pub on Kildaire Farm Road, Madstone Theater on East Maynard Road and SAS Institute Inc.

The group also thanks all of the host families for all that they contributed, including weekend trips out of town, baseball games, water parks, shopping trips and more.

The sister city relationship with Le Touquet, France, is Cary's longest. Le Touquet is located on the English Channel between Boulogne and Calais.

Next summer, Le Touquet will welcome students from Cary for two weeks. Representatives from Le Touquet, France, and two of Cary's other three Sister Cities are visiting Cary and the area during Lazy Daze this week.

Sister Cities of Cary invites everyone to visit their booth at Lazy Daze and the Web site at www.sistercitiesofcary.org.
