The Town of Cary Sister Cities Commission received the Sister Cities International Commemorative 50th Anniversary Award. This award recognized 22 sister city programs who have demonstrated long-term sustainability of their sister city program. 7/06 Mayor Pro-Tem Jack Smith received the Sister Cities International 50th Anniversary Local Government Leadership Circle Award. This award recognizes the role of elected and appointed government officials during the first half-century of the sister city movement. 7/06 Joe Zaytoun, active member of the Sister Cities Association received the Sister Cities International 50th Anniversary Circle of Distinguished Volunteers Award. This award honors the citizen diplomats who have volunteered with distinction on behalf of sister city partnerships at the local level. 7/06 |

Ian Henshaw, SCC Chair, received the Town of Cary Multi-Cultural Arts Award. This award is presented to an individual who is resourceful in promoting the arts and appreciation of other cultures and has supported the Town of Cary’s cultural programs. 2/07 Selby Lo, SCC teen liaison, received the Town of Cary Herb Young Award. This award is given to a volunteer with overall outstanding service, leadership, and support for and of the staff and programs of Cary’s Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department. 2/05 |

Durham Sister Cities received the 2008 Sister Cities International ‘Innovation: Arts and Culture Award’ for its recently dedicated Japanese Tea House at Duke Gardens. 7/2008 Kayee Au, a student at Enloe High School, placed in the top 20 finalists in the 2008 Sister Cities International Showcase of Young Artists. Her painting is entitled “The Colors of My Community.” The show will travel throughout the U.S. 7/2008 |
