Hsinchu City combines natural beauty with a growing technology community.  Located in the northwestern part of Taiwan, the city is on the vital north-south freeway with rail services, good public roads and a harbor for shipping.

First established 711, Hsinchu City was once called “Chuchien” (trenches of bamboo).  It is an area of more than 100 square kilometers cloaked by mountains and the sea.

Their coastline includes wetlands and a water fowl habitat, and is home to a number of endangered bird and ocean mammal species.

Today Hsinchu City enjoys its fame as a key city for culture and science.  The Hsinchu industrial Park has been dubbed the “Asian Silicone Valley,” where a vast amount of scientific and technological progress has been made since its founding.  Electronics, agriculture, food processing, glass production and fishing are its main industries.  Hsinchu City is the testing ground for networking technologies developed under the National Information Infrastructure program.  Hsinchu City is also home to both Chung Hua University and National Tsing Hua University.

Mayor Jung - Tzer Lin

Text Box: Hsinchu City’s Emblem
Three elements comprise the theme of
this emblem: heaven, earth and human.
The bamboo leaves represent progress.
The three sections of bamboo joints forming the circle
signify cooperation and teamwork. The center says
Hsinchu City in Chinese. A symbol of happiness, joy,
and harmony, it truly represents the spirit of our Sister
City.
