Markham is a town located in the Regional Municipality of York, Ontario, Canada.  It is directly north of Toronto, and is part of Toronto's Census Metropolitan Area. Despite its qualifications regarding population, it has not had the title of city conferred upon it by the province, and retains its legal status as a town.

INTERNATIONAL ART EXCHANGE

Text Box: In 2004, the Sister Cities Commission hosted an exhibit of  20 works by 14 artists from Markham entitled .  The exhibit displayed at the Page-Walker from July 31st to August 28th.  
In 2006,  the Town of Markham hosted an exhibit of 25 artists from Cary entitled “The Spirit of Cary”.   This exhibit displayed at the Varley Art Gallery from September 7th to October 8th.

This exchange of artwork was made possible

in part  by grants from the Lazy Daze Grants.

Town Crier” for the Town of

Markham visited Cary for Lazy

Daze 2003 and 2004.  His wife,

Mary Webster is the “Official

Wife of the Town Crier.” 

Regaling the community with

proclamations both wide and

far, he soon became a festival favorite.  Following Lazy Daze in 2004, the Mayor of Cary proclaimed him as Cary’s  “Official Honorary Town Crier.”
