1991

· February - First new members began serving on the Commission

· April - Killarney was determined to be too smallwithout any full time town officials to respond or show interest.

· May - Efforts to select a new sister city began.

· Letters were sent out to 20 cities in England, Germany, France and the Bahamas.

· Received 2 positive responses from French cities.

· The American hub at RDU with daily non-stops to Paris helped the Commission lean towards a selection.

· Summer - The commission received a request from Le Touquet to come for a visit.

· November 6 - Six members of the commission traveled to Le Touquet to survey the town, they were honored on Armistice Day by the mayor of Fourmies

· December - Recommendation was made at theTown Council meeting to adopt Le Touquet as Cary’s first Sister City.

1994

· March - Hsinchu City, Taiwan was adopted as second Sister City following trip by Councilman Jack Smith, Howard Johnson and John Wei.

· Spring break - A youth delegation went to Le Touquet.  17 youth, 4 adults.

· May - Instructors from Le Touquet’s Hotel and Restaurant Management School (Lycce Hotelier du Touquet) came to plan a trip for their students.

· August - A college group from  Lycce Hotelier du Touquet came to work for three weeks.  22 students and 2 adults.

· September - Eighteen youth and four adults came from Le Touquet for home stays.

1995

1996

· July - Sixteen member delegation from Hsinchu City took a 3 day tour around the fourth of July holiday.

· August - Twenty plus students from the Lycce Hotelier du Touquet came with two instructors.

· September - The newly elected Mayor of Le Touquet came for a 2 day visit.  He met with some of the students who journeyed here.

1997

1999

· July - Mayor of Le Touquet returned for a brief visit.

· August - Twenty plus students from the Lycee Hotelier du Touquet came with two instructors.  Plans for a get together were cancelled due to FRAN.

· December - Mayor Booth faxed a request for Le Touquet to host CHS Band New Years 1998.

1998

· January - Ken and Karen George travel to Le Touquet to make specific arrangements for CHS Band.

· August - Fourteen students and two instructors ended their three weeks working in America by staying the weekend with families, most of whom were band members.

· December - CHS band traveled to Le Touquet.  Sunday a.m. parade in the streets or Le Touquet, Orchestra performed for Mass, concert outside Cathedral, evening concert with over 2,000 guests, evening dinner with entertainment and catered for all students in the band, Monday parade in streets of Bolougna, visit to WWII cemetery and war museum depicting the freeing of Northern      France, shopping at the Cite Europa mall near the tunnel.

· April - Twenty youth and two adults went to Le Touquet for home stays.  Most stayed about ten days, others extended their trip.  Barbara Pinna led the group.

· May - Mayor Booth, Bob Godbold, Jerry Miller and others went to Le Touquet on fan official visit after taking the American Airlines inaugural flight to London.

· June - Several students came and stayed with individuals for some time in the summer.

· August - A second group of students from Lycce Hotelier du Touquet came for a 3 week work/study.  23 students and 2 adults

· September - The Mayor of Le Touquet brought a delegation of 3 for a whirlwind tour of Cary.

· July - Nine students with ties to Le Touquet came to Cary for home stays of from 20-40 days.

· August - Thirteen students and two instructors from Lycee Hotelier du Touquet  came to area for three weeks to work in hotels and restaurants.

· November - Ken and Karen George travel to Le Touquet on their way to Belgium and Germany to discuss future exchange opportunities.

· June - Martine Lefebvre, Sister Cities Liaison, traveled to Cary to meet with Cary Band Boosters to discuss a trip for Spring 2000 to Le Touquet.

· Summer - Two students from Le Touquet came to visit Cary.

· November - Ken George traveled to Le Touquet in November to discuss Spring 2000 trip with sister cities Liaison in Le Touquet.

· Spring - CHS Performing Arts Group traveled to Le Touquet.

· Summer - Ten students from Le Touquet were hosted in Cary for three weeks.

· Summer - Three students from Cary visited Le Touquet for                                      3+ weeks.

· January - Barry Mitch prepared a database of several hundred names of potential members to be used for future mailings.  A drive to increase membership is underway.

· March - St. Patrick’s Day event includes Irish bagpiper, Sam O’Kane and a slide presentation by Jack Crosson.

· April - SCC hosts an information booth at Spring Daze.

· April - A delegation of 41 traveled to Markham.  The visit included tours of businesses, cultural facilities and athletic facilities. 

· May - A proclamation was issued that Markham is the 4th Sister City of Cary.

· May - Students from the Lycee Hotelier du Touquet came with instructors to study at Wake Tech and area hotels.

· July - One student from Le Touquet visited Cary for a 3 week home stay.

· July - Three regional Councillors from Markham visited for two days and toured various sites, projects and facilities in the area.

· August - Commission and Association hosted a booth at Lazy Daze.  The sale of bread from Le Farm bakery served as a fundraiser.

· October - Joe Zaytoun visited Le Touquet to foster bringing business from Le Touquet to Cary.

· Jack Smith, Howard Johnson, and Mike Gallagher visited Markham to attend a tech fest.

·  November - Steve Morrison attended the International Film Festival in Le Touquet and hosted a civic booth with information regarding Cary.

· July - Town of Cary selects County Meath, Ireland as 3rd Sister City.

· Summer - Students from Le Touquet visit in Cary homes.

· September - Commission members researched and catalogued an information brochure of available services and events in Cary.  This catalog is available as a PDF file for commission perusal.

· October - Delegation of five, including TOC Assistant Town Manager Ben Shivar, TOC Chair of Economic Development John Powell, Chamber of Commerce President Howard Johnson, Chair of the Chamber of Commerce Mike Gallagher, and Commission Chairman Barry Mitch traveled to Markham, Ontario, Canada to explore the possibility of an economic alliance with Markham.

· First meetings held in 1989 with Bill Garmon as Council Liaison

· September - A delegation from Le Touquet came to Cary (their Mayor was unable to attend due to pressing matters concerning the French Port Authority.  Being discussed was a new port possibly being located in Le Touquet.)

· Designed and undertook selection process in 1990, accepting applications from citizens

· Sister Cities Association of Cary, Inc. founded Feb. 20, 1990

· Killarney, Ireland selected as first Sister City
